Easy apple crumble pie recipe has juicy spiced apples topped with a buttery oat crumble. It's an easy apple pie that’s perfect for holidays or anytime baking.
Roll pie dough into an 11-inch circle and press into a deep 9-inch pie plate.
9 inch single pie crust
Crimp the edges.
Place the pie pan in the freezer while preparing the filling.
Lower the oven rack to the lower middle position, and preheat oven to 375°F.
Place apple slices in a large bowl.
6 large baking apples
Add sugar, flour, lemon juice and apple pie spice. Toss until apples are coated; set aside.
⅓ cup granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon apple pie spice, 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
In a separate bowl make the crumble topping. Whisk together flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon.
¾ cup all purpose flour, ½ cup rolled oats, ½ cup light brown sugar, ¼ cup granulated sugar, ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Add butter and use a pastry cutter or two forks to blend butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture is crumbly.
½ cup salted butter
Remove pie crust from the freezer.
Mound the apples in the pie crust.
Place the pie on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes.
Remove from the oven and add the crumble topping on top of the apples, gently pressing it down onto the apples.
Continue baking for about 35-45 more minutes. After the first 20 minutes, check the pie. If the crust and crumble are golden brown, tent with foil.
Let the pie cool for at least 3 hours before cutting and serving.
Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
Notes
Pie crust: You can make a homemade single pie crust, use a refrigerated pie crust, or use a deep-dish frozen pie crust.
Apples: I like to use a mix of baking apples for the best flavor. It’s important to use baking apples, like Granny Smith, so that the apples cook down properly.
Granulated sugar: Feel free to adjust the amount of sugar according to your tastes and the sweetness of the apples used.
Butter: If you use unsalted butter, add 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Spices: You can substitute 1 tablespoon of for the individual spices.
