Place beef in a large slow cooker. I use a 5 quart.
4 pounds beef brisket
Rub brisket with liquid smoke, if using, and then rub with seasoning.
1/4 cup barbecue seasoning, 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
Pour broth around the brisket.
1/2 cup beef broth
Cover, and cook on low for 8 hours, or until tender.
Remove brisket from the slow cooker.
Stir together 1 cup beef juices from slow cooker and barbecue sauce.
2 cups barbecue sauce
Discard remaining juices.
Return brisket to the slow cooker, and pour sauce mixture over the top.
Cover, and cook on high for 30 minutes.
Thinly slice beef across the grain, shred, or chop. I like to serve the meat with a little bit of extra sauce on top.
Notes
Seasoning: I like to use brown sugar hickory seasoning in this recipe; however, you can use your favorite seasoning.
Barbecue sauce: I like Kansas City style barbecue sauce in this recipe. The barbecue sauce will add a lot of the flavor, so choose a sauce that you like.
Cooking time: The cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of your brisket. If it isn't fork tender, continue to cook until it is.
