Peanut butter Oreo cookie balls are an easy, no-bake treat. You only need 3 ingredients, and they only take a few minutes of hands-on time to make.
Traditionally, Oreo cookie balls are made with cream cheese in the filling. However, this version uses peanut butter instead of cream cheese.
So, they taste like a peanut buttery Oreo truffle! These cookie balls a great, easy project to make with family and friends over the holidays, and they make a tasty addition to Christmas cookie trays.
Ingredient notes and substitutions
- Peanut butter: I recommend using regular creamy peanut butter. No stir peanut butter can be too oily, which will give you loose filling.
- Oreo cookies: I used regular Oreo cookies. Feel free to use any flavor of Oreo cookie that you think will go well with peanut butter, i.e. dark chocolate filled Oreo cookies.
- Semisweet chocolate baking chocolate: I don’t like to use chocolate chips because they can have ingredients that make it difficult for them to melt properly. Dark chocolate melting wafers or chocolate almond bark will also work.

Step 1: Add peanut butter and cookie crumbs to a medium bowl, and mix until blended.
Step 2: Shape into 48 1-inch balls, and place the balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Step 3: Freeze for 10 minutes.
Step 4: Dip balls in melted chocolate, and place in a single layer on a shallow waxed paper-lined pan.
Step 5: If topping with chopped peanuts or sea salt, work quickly because the chocolate will set quickly.

Recipe FAQs
You can! Sunbutter makes a great substitute for the peanut butter.
Absolutely! Feel free to freeze the cookie balls in a freezer-safe container for up to 1 month.
Recipe Tips!
- Crushing the cookies: I use either a blender or a food processor to process the cookies into crumbs. You can also crush the cookies with a rolling pin if you prefer.
- Scooping the Oreo cookie balls: I use a teaspoon-sized cookie scoop to portion the filling mixture.
- Topping: I like to top the Oreo cookie balls with a sprinkle of finely chopped peanut and a bit of sea salt. Feel free to top the cookie balls with any other topping you’d like.
- Troubleshooting: If the filling is too crumbly, add a tablespoon of peanut butter at a time until it is easy to work with. If the filling is too soft, mix in a couple of tablespoons of Oreo cookie crumbs at a time until the filling hold together.
Storage
Store any leftover Oreo cookie balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The Oreo cookie balls will keep for up to 5 days when properly stored.

I believe they are wondering whether or not you scrape the cream off of the oreo cookie before blending it. Or if you just toss the cookie whole into the food processor. The answer is yes, leave the cream on the cookie.

Thank you!

A little confused – “4 (4 oz.) packages semisweet baking chocolate, melted” does this mean a pound of baking chocolate?
Thanks
Andrea
Kate says
Yes, it’s a pound of chocolate total. I thought it would be easier to write it that way because most of the baking chocolate comes in 4 oz. packages, but maybe I made it less clear by doing that. Thanks for the question!

After Thanksgiving, it tends to all go down hill for me in terms of healthy eating (I try to get back on track by New Years’ haha). Even though it’s well past Thanksgiving now, this is still an awesome recipe for any time I’m feeling too lazy to do any hardcore baking. Thanks for the idea!
Kate says
At least you make it to Thanksgiving! For me, I start having diet issues mid-October. Halloween treats get me every year. That’s what I keep telling myself, too- after New Years I’ll get back on track. =)

Have you tried adding any cream cheese to the balls?
Kate says
I’ve made the cookie balls with cream cheese, but I haven’t tried a combination of cream cheese and peanut butter. If you try it, please let me know how it turns out! =)
