This time of year, it’s nice to have an easy dessert recipe that can feed a crowd.
These Black Bottom Pecan Praline Bars are just that sort of recipe. The fudgy brownie base and buttery, brown sugar pecan topping make this an incredibly rich dessert that looks like a lot more work than it really is!

Black Bottom Pecan Praline Bars
Ingredients
Brownie Layer
- ½ cup butter
- 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate , chopped
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
Pecan Praline Layer
- ½ cup butter
- ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 ½ cups coarsely chopped pecans
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Sit aside.
Brownie Layer
- In a large, microwave-safe bowl, heat the butter and chocolate together in the microwave for 30 seconds.½ cup butter, 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
- Stir, and continue heating and stirring in 15 second intervals until chocolate has melted.
- Add sugar, vanilla, and salt. Stir to combine.1 tablespoon vanilla extract, ¼ teaspoon salt, 1 cup granulated sugar
- Stir in eggs until combined.2 large eggs
- Mix in the flour until batter is smooth and glossy.½ cup all-purpose flour
- Pour batter into prepared pan. Set aside.
Pecan Praline Layer
- In a large saucepan, melt butter.½ cup butter
- Remove from heat, and stir in brown sugar until combined.¾ cup brown sugar,
- Stir in egg yolks and vanilla until combined.2 egg yolks, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Add flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir until just combined.½ cup all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon baking soda, ½ teaspoon salt
- Stir in chopped pecans.2 ½ cups coarsely chopped pecans
- Drop spoonfuls of the pecan praline layer over the brownie layer. The pecan praline layer will spread during baking to cover brownie layer.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until edges are browned.
- Let cool completely before cutting.
