Best Halloween snack mix recipe! This blend of Chex, cheerios, nuts, and candy makes an easy Halloween snack, treat, or dessert!

Halloween snack mix in a black wooden bowl

This Halloween snack mix is perfect for when you want to have a fun holiday treat but don't feel like going crazy decorating.

It's a yummy, sweet and salty snack mix that tastes like caramel corn meets toffee Chex mix with some candy thrown in for a little extra goodness. Check out the step-by-step photos to see how to make it, and there are tips below with substitution and customization ideas.

How to make Halloween snack mix

Popcorn mix in a half sheet pan

In a large bowl, stir together popcorn, Cheerios, Chex, and peanuts. Pour into prepared pan.

In a large saucepan, stir together brown sugar, corn syrup, and butter.  Heat over medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring regularly.
Caramel in a silver saucepanRemove from heat. Stir in the vanilla and baking soda until well-combined.

Pour the caramel mixture over the popcorn mixture. Bake for 15 minutes. Stir.

Halloween snack mix in a half sheet panContinue baking for an additional 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. Let cool completely.

    Add candy mix before serving.

Two bowls of halloween snack mix

    Tips

    • Cereal: Feel free to adjust the amount of cereal to your liking (i.e. 3 cups of Chex and 1 cup of Cheerios).
    • Peanuts: You can use an additional cup of cereal in place of the peanuts. Or you can substitute 1 cup of pretzels for the peanuts.
    • Candy: Autumn candy mix is a mix of candy corns and candy pumpkins. You can use a mix of all candy corn or all pumpkins if you prefer.

    Storing

This snack mix can be stored at room temperature in a resealable container for up to 5 days. Since I live in a humid area, I have to leave a corner of the container open so that it doesn't get so soft as it sits.
