Soft and fluffy bread machine dinner rolls are melt-in-your-mouth soft and made with just a few simple ingredients. The bread machine does the work, so you get fluffy, homemade rolls with minimal effort—perfect for holidays or easy weeknight dinners.

Bread Machine Dinner Rolls are the easiest way to get soft, homemade rolls on the table without spending a lot of time mixing or kneading. The dough comes together right in the bread machine, giving you a smooth, perfectly risen dough that’s ready to shape.
The baked rolls turn out incredibly soft and fluffy with a tender crumb that makes them perfect for pairing with holiday meals, soups, or weeknight dinners. With their simple ingredient list and reliable rise, this recipe is a great go-to when you want homemade rolls with minimal hands-on work.

Ingredient notes and substitutions
- Milk: I recommend using whole milk for the softest, richest rolls. However, I’ve used 2% milk, and it worked just fine.
- Oil: I use olive oil in this recipe.
- Sea salt: If you don’t have sea salt, use half the amount of table salt.
- Bread machine yeast: Instant yeast is the best substitute for bread machine yeast.
How to make soft and fluffy bread machine dinner rolls
Here you’ll find instructions and step-by-step photos showing how to make this recipe. The full recipe, including ingredients, is given below.
Step 1: Grease a 9×13-inch pan. Set aside.

Step 1: Add the ingredients except the melted butter to your bread machine in the order given by the manufacturer. It will probably go from wet to dry with the yeast last.
Step 3: Press the dough cycle.

Step 4: When the cycle ends, turn the dough onto a heavily floured surface. The dough will be pretty sticky, so give the dough a couple of kneads in the flour.
Step 5: Divide the dough into 16 pieces and shape into round rolls.

Step 6: Place the shaped dough in the prepared pan.
Step 7: Cover the pan with a kitchen towel, and let the rolls rise for about 30 minutes in a warm, draft-free spot. Toward the end of the rising time, preheat your oven to 350F.

Step 8: Uncover, and bake the rolls for about 12-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
Step 9: Brush the hot rolls with melted butter.

Recipe Tips!
- Dough consistency: The dough will be sticky, but please resist the urge to work in quite a bit more flour. The soft dough makes for soft rolls.
- Dairy-free: To make the rolls dairy-free, use a dairy-free milk and brush the rolls with dairy-free butter.

Storage
Store any leftover dinner rolls in an airtight container at room temperature. The rolls will keep for about 3 days when properly.
