Bread Machine Buttermilk Oat Bread is an easy way to make a soft, hearty loaf without spending time kneading or mixing by hand. The combination of buttermilk and oats gives the bread a tender texture and just a hint of richness, making it perfect for everyday use.
With only a few minutes of prep, you can add the ingredients to your bread machine and let it handle the rest. The finished loaf slices beautifully and works well for sandwiches, toast, or serving alongside soups or your favorite meals.

Ingredient notes and substitutions
- Buttermilk: If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make an easy homemade buttermilk substitute with this recipe.
- Honey: Honey adds moisture and flavor.
- Oil: I like to use olive oil in this recipe, but any neutral oil should work.
- Flour: I either weigh the flour or sift, lightly spoon, and level without packing. Using too much flour will give you a dense, heavy loaf of bread.

Recipe Tips!
- Bread machine model: I have four different bread machines that I use to test my recipes. I have an older Cuisinart as well as the newer Cuisinart model. I also have the KBS, and a Hamilton Beach.
- Freezing: You can freeze the baked and cooled loaf by letting the loaf cool to room temperature, wrapping tightly in plastic wrap, and placing in a freezer-safe container for up to 1 month.

Storage
Store any leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature. It will keep for about 3 days when properly stored at room temperature.
