Bread Machine Steakhouse Brown Bread recipe makes a loaf of soft, moist, and lightly sweet brown bread like the bread served at steakhouses. With just a few basic ingredients and 5 minutes of prep, the bread machine does all the work.

If you love the warm brown bread served at steakhouses, this bread machine steakhouse brown bread is an easy way to make it at home. It has that signature deep color and slightly sweet molasses flavor, but with almost no hands-on time.
For years, I have had people asking me to make a bread machine version of my popular steakhouse bread, so I came up with this easy recipe. Everything goes straight into the bread machine, making this an easy recipe that’s perfect for busy days.
The result is a soft, moist bread that’s great for slicing and serving alongside soups, salads, and hearty dinners.
Ingredient notes and substitutions
- Molasses: I don’t recommend using blackstrap molasses because it can be bitter.
- Oil: Neutral oil like olive oil or canola oil works well.
- Kosher salt: If you don’t have kosher salt or sea salt, use half the amount of table salt.
How to make bread machine steakhouse brown bread
Here you’ll find instructions and step-by-step photos showing how to make this recipe. The full recipe, including ingredients, is given below. For more tips, check out my bread machine baking guide.

Step 1: Add the ingredients to your bread machine in the order given by the manufacturer. It will likely be the order listed above.
Step 2: Press the basic or white bread cycle. Adjust the crust setting. I like to use the lightest setting as the molasses and honey can cause the bread to overbrown with darker cycles.
Step 3: Once the cooking time has ended, remove the bread and let it cool on a wire cooling rack for about 30 minutes before slicing and serving with plenty of butter.
Recipe Tips!
- Bread machine model: I have four different bread machines that I use to test my recipes. I have an older Cuisinart as well as the newer Cuisinart model. I also have the KBS, and a Hamilton Beach.
- Freezing: To freeze the baked bread, let it cool to room temperature on a wire cooling rack. Then, wrap the loaf or slices tightly in plastic wrap and place in a freezer-safe container.
- Serving: This bread goes well with everything from steak to stew. I serve it spread with plenty of butter.

Storage
Store any leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature. The bread is best eaten within 2-3 days.
