Chewy chocolate chocolate chip cookies are double chocolate chip cookies with soft middles and chewy edges.
I love a good chewy cookie! These chewy chocolate chocolate chip cookies are based on my chewy brown sugar chocolate chip cookies.
They have soft middles and chewy edges, so they’re pretty much a perfect double chocolate cookie.
These cookies pack a double chocolate punch! The chocolate cookies aren’t overly sweet, and they’re full of melty chocolate.
How to make chocolate chocolate chip cookies
These cookies start with melted butter, and have plenty of brown sugar mixed in. The cookies have an extra dose of vanilla to enhance the chocolate. The cookies also have a fair amount of cocoa powder to give the cookies lots of chocolate flavor.
Can I use a different type of chocolate?
Yes! I always suggest using the type of chocolate that you like.
I prefer semisweet chocolate in these cookies. If you want more of a dark chocolate cookie, use bittersweet chocolate. If you want a sweeter cookie, use milk chocolate chips in these cookies.

Notes
**Can substitute 4 ounces finely chopped baking chocolate for chocolate chips. I like to use semisweet in this recipe. If you prefer a less sweet cookie, you can use bittersweet chocolate. If you prefer a sweeter cookies, try milk chocolate.
***I suggest stirring this recipe together by hand rather than using a hand or stand mixer.

Wanted a chocolate cookie for my Christmas tray. Made this recipe but substituted white chips with red and green swirls for more festive look! Turned out great!

Should I use dark brown sugar or light brown sugar?
Kate says
I use light brown sugar, but either type of brown sugar will work in this recipe.

I made these cookies last night for a Halloween party and y’all, they almost didn’t get baked because I ate almost all the batter it was so good ? I will say that once they were baked they didn’t turn out as good as they should have but that’s my fault. I sifted then scooped and leveled my flour and In the end there wasn’t enough flour so they were very crumbly and fell apart as you were eating them. Maybe just soft or just scoop and level but not both??? They still tasted delicious even though they fell apart. I used dark brown sugar instead of light (you can use them interchangeably but the dark brown sugar has a stronger molasses taste so it depends on your preference ) the other alteration I did is that I used mini chocolate chips, mega chunk chocolate chips, and orange M&Ms (since I made them for Halloween) I used the same 10oz amount that the recipe called for. Thanks for sharing this recipe!!! Loved it

I’m so glad to hear that you liked the cookies! Thanks for commenting! =)

The dark brown sugar has molasses in it so that’s why you would get the molasses taste in the Halloween cookies. I only use the light coloured brown sugar here in Canada.

Haven’t baked these yet but I have a question… I want to use this for a chocolate version of a Monster Cookie, meaning I want to add m&m’s and butterscotch chips along with the chocolate chips. Should I adjust the recipe in any way?
Kate says
I haven’t tried it to say for certain, but I would just use half chocolate chips and half butterscotch chips and then add in the M&Ms. Hope that helps! =)

Awesome recipe! I decreased bake time to 7 minutes and added 12 oz of chocolate chips instead of 10oz. Only because the bag came in 12 oz bags only.

Can the dough be made ahead of time? Like the night before? Then just let the dough come to room temperature or would it mess the dough up by chilling it? Thank you!
Kate says
Yes, you could make the dough the day before. I would recommend storing it, covered, in the fridge and then taking it out about 15 minutes or so before baking to let it come up some in temperature. You may also find that you need slightly press the cookie dough down if it’s still pretty cool or increase the baking time. Hope that helps!

I baked the cookies and they looked like crinkles. Cookie didn’t spread out might be bcoz I put too much flour. I spoon and leveled every ingredients. Still delicious to me and will bake this recipe again with less flour. Thank you for sharing them.
Kate says
I think that was it! If you try it with less flour, they should spread more. If you have any issues with the next batch, please let me know, and I’m happy to help! =)
