Halloween Rice Krispies Treats are a fun, no-bake dessert made with a layer of peanut butter Rice Krispies topped with melted chocolate and a cute Reese’s peanut butter cup spider on top. They’re quick, festive, and the perfect spooky-sweet treat to make with kids in less than 30 minutes!

Halloween desserts don’t have to be complicated, and these Halloween Rice Krispies Treats prove it! Made with gooey peanut butter Rice Krispies, a rich layer of chocolate, and a Reese’s cup “spider” on top, they’re equal parts spooky and sweet.
This is the kind of Halloween treat that’s as fun to make as it is to eat. You’ll only need a few pantry ingredients and about 30 minutes to put everything together, and there’s no baking required. These festive bars are perfect for Halloween parties, bake sales, or a fun afternoon activity with kids.
They’re easy to customize, too! I’ve included tips below to help you make a peanut-free version that’s just as tasty.

Ingredient notes and substitutions
- Butter: You could also use unsalted butter and add a pinch of salt. The salt just helps to balance out the sweetness in the treats.
- Marshmallows: Original (larger) marshmallows will also work.
- Peanut butter: It’s important to use regular peanut butter, like Jif or Skippy, and not natural peanut butter.
- Chocolate chips: You can use dark chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips if you prefer.
- Coconut oil: Shortening, like Crisco, can be used in place of the coconut oil.
How to make Halloween Rice Krispies treats
Here you’ll find instructions and step-by-step photos showing how to make this recipe. The full recipe, including ingredients, is given below.
Step 1: Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.

Step 2: In a large pot, melt butter on low heat. You’ll want to keep the heat low so that the butter melts but doesn’t brown.
Step 3: Once butter has melted, add the mini marshmallows.

Step 4: Once marshmallows begin to melt, stir in the peanut butter. You’ll need to stir the mixture constantly until the marshmallows have completely melted and everything is combined. Remove from heat.
Step 5: Stir in the Rice Krispies.
Step 6: Pour the cereal mixture into the prepared pan, and gently press it to form an even layer.

Step 7: To make the topping, add the chocolate chips to a microwave-safe dish. Microwave for 30 seconds. Stir.
Step 8: Add the coconut oil, and continue microwaving and stirring in 15 second intervals until melted and combined. Pour the chocolate mixture over the bars, and spread to combine.
Step 10: Let set up for 30 minutes, or until set, before cutting and decorating.

Step 11: Remove from pan and cut treats into squares. Set aside.
Step 12: To make the spiders, microwave the candy melts at 50% power for 30 seconds. Stir. Continue microwaving and stirring in 30 second intervals until smooth and melted.
Step 13: Add the melted candy mixture to a piping bag with a small tip.
Step 14: Add a peanut butter cup in the center of each cut square.

Step 15: Using the piping bag to add legs starting from the peanut butter cup and moving outward.
Step 16: Add two small dots of melted chocolate to the front of the peanut butter cup and then gently press the candy eyes to the peanut butter cup.
Step 17: Let the decoration set up and cool before serving.

Recipe Tips!
- Non peanut butter version: If you would like to make a version of this that doesn’t use peanut butter, start with my butterscotch Rice Krispies treats recipe or use another base like my Oreo Rice Krispies treat recipe in place of the peanut butter treats.
- Sun Butter: You could also use Sun Butter (sunflower butter) in place of the peanut butter and then use sun butter cups, or a similar non-peanut candy, for the spiders.

Storage
I recommend storing the treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to 5 days when properly stored in the fridge.
