Ingredient notes and substitutions
- Milk: Any type of milk, from skim milk to whole milk, will work. Dairy-free milks, like almond milk, cashew milk, oat milk, soy milk or even coconut milk, can also be used.
- Oats: I’ve only used old-fashioned oats and haven’t tried using quick oats in this recipe.
- Brown sugar: I use light brown sugar. Feel free to use more or less depending on how sweet you’d like the oats to be.
- Bananas: Blended baked oats are a great alternative to banana bread for using up ripe bananas. It’s important to use ripe or overripe bananas because they give the oats more flavor and sweetness.
- Vanilla extract: You can use less if you prefer.
- Chocolate chips: I like to use mini chocolate chips because they give little bites of chocolate throughout the oats. Regular chocolate chips will also work.

Hi! It was natural peanut butter.

Can I triple this recipe for 6 servings and bake it in a loaf pan? If so, at what oven temperature and for how long?
Kate says
Hi! I’m not sure how a loaf pan would work. You may want to try a more shallow baking dish so that it will be more similar to the depth of a ramekin.

Do you have to use bananas? Can this be made without one?
Kate says
Hi! I haven’t tried making the oats without the banana. However, I’ve used applesauce or pumpkin as a substitute for banana in other recipes, so maybe that would work?
